About the route
Świnoujście is spread over 44 islands and islets, but only three are inhabited: Usedom, Wolin and Karsibór. The last one used to be part of Usedom. It became an island in 1874-1880, when the Piast Canal was dug to shorten the shipping route from Szczecin to the sea.
From the centre you take the ferry to Warszów, ride south and cross the Piast Bridge onto Karsibór. It is a quiet, green island with a small village, meadows and views of the Szczecin Lagoon.
What you will see
- The Piast Canal, used by ships heading for the port of Szczecin.
- Meadows and reed beds on the edge of the Świna backwater delta, one of the most important bird refuges in this part of Europe.
- The small, peaceful village of Karsibór.
Where to eat on Karsibór
There are two fish restaurants on the island, so it is easy to combine the ride with lunch: the Rybaczówka fish inn right by the water and the Fishermen’s Tavern in Karsibór Marina, with fish from local fishermen. We have marked both on the route map.
The islands of the Świna delta belong to Wolin National Park and are mostly closed to visitors. Watch the birds from the shore and stay on the roads.
