Świnoujście lies on islands, so it helps to know which bank of the Świna you are arriving on. The beach, the promenade, the seaside district and the centre are on the left bank (Usedom island). The PKP railway station, the ferry terminal for Sweden and the lighthouse are on the right bank (Warszów, Wolin island).
By car
- From Poland: on the S3 expressway, which since 2025 has run without a break from the Czech border all the way to Świnoujście. From Szczecin it is about 110 km.
- The S3 ends at the tunnel under the Świna. Drive through the tunnel (free) to the left bank, where most accommodation and the beach are.
- From Germany: across Usedom island, on the road from Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf. You arrive directly on the left bank.

By train
- PKP: trains run to Świnoujście station in Warszów. From there, cross to the left bank on the free Bielik ferry or take a city bus.
- UBB from Germany: the Usedomer Bäderbahn runs to Świnoujście Centrum station on the left bank, close to the border.
By plane
- Szczecin-Goleniów: about 77 km, an hour’s drive.
- Heringsdorf (Germany): about 12 km from the centre of Świnoujście. Flights are mostly seasonal.
By ferry from Sweden
Passenger and car ferries run from Ystad and Trelleborg to the ferry terminal in Świnoujście, next to the railway station in Warszów.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have to take a ferry to get to Świnoujście?
No. Since 2023 you can drive through the tunnel under the Świna. The Bielik ferry is for pedestrians and cyclists, because walking and cycling through the tunnel are not allowed.
Which station should I get off at in Świnoujście?
PKP trains run to Świnoujście station in Warszów (right bank). The UBB train from Germany stops at Świnoujście Centrum station (left bank).
