The tunnel under the Świna

Since 30 June 2023 a tunnel under the Świna has linked the islands of Usedom and Wolin. Who can use it, how long it is and what to remember.

Who cannot use the tunnel

  • Pedestrians and cyclists: for them there is the free Bielik ferry. Off-season some crossings are taken over by the P1 bus, and bikes are carried through the tunnel by a special vehicle with a trailer (details in our guide Ferries).
  • Horse-drawn vehicles and farm tractors.
  • Vehicles carrying dangerous goods.

What the tunnel changed

Before 2023 the only way for cars to cross between the islands was by ferry, with long queues in season. Today you drive from the S3 straight into the tunnel and a few minutes later you are on Usedom, close to the beach and the centre. Some city bus lines also run through the tunnel.
