Dunes in Świnoujście
  1. 44 islands. Świnoujście lies on 44 islands and islets. Only three are inhabited: Usedom, Wolin and Karsibór.
  2. An island by accident. Karsibór was a peninsula of Usedom until the Piast Canal was dug in 1874-1880.
  3. The widest beach in Poland. In places it is about 200 metres wide.
  4. A record-breaking lighthouse. It is the tallest lighthouse on the Polish coast and the tallest brick lighthouse in the world. 308 steps lead to the top.
  5. A windmill that is not a windmill. Stawa Młyny is a navigation mark from 1873-1874 and is now part of the town’s logo.
  6. A border on the promenade. The promenade runs into Germany without a barrier, and the whole stretch of promenades to Bansin is about 12 km long.
  7. German trains in a Polish town. Since 2008, trains of the German UBB railway have run to Świnoujście Centrum station.
  8. The station on the other side of the river. Świnoujście railway station is in Warszów, on the right bank of the Świna, while the centre and beach are on the left. A free ferry links them on foot.
  9. A tunnel for cars, a ferry for pedestrians. The tunnel under the Świna is 1.78 km long, but you may not walk or cycle through it.
  10. Two record-breaking piers next door. Neighbouring Ahlbeck has the oldest pier in Germany (1898), and Heringsdorf the longest (508 m).
  11. Bird islands. More than 240 bird species have been recorded in the Świna delta.
