About the route
A walk from the beach to the centre by the nicest possible route: instead of pavements along the streets, you follow the paths of Park Zdrojowy and then come out by the Świna. The quay in the centre is where you can see that Świnoujście is a port town: the Bielik ferries shuttle to Warszów, and ships and fishing boats sail past.
What you will see along the way
- The historic Park Zdrojowy designed by Peter Joseph Lenné.
- The Świna quay with its ship and ferry traffic.
- The former town hall from 1809, now home to the Museum of Sea Fishing.
Where to take a break
By the quay and on plac Wolności there are several cafés and restaurants, including CoffeeBar and Costa Coffee. For lunch in the centre we recommend Albakora.
Back via the North Basin
Instead of returning the same way, walk north from the museum along the Świna, towards the sea. After about twenty minutes you reach the North Basin (Basen Północny), a harbour full of yachts and sailing boats. It is worth stopping here: masts sway on the water, halyards tap against them with every gust of wind, and a little further on ships glide along the Świna. Sit on the quayside for a while and watch the sailors tidy their boats after a day at sea.
From the harbour, ul. Jachtowa leads towards the forts. On the way you can call in at Prochownia, a restaurant in the 19th-century powder magazine of the old fortress. Brick vaults, a tiled stove and regional food from its own smokehouse make a fine end to the walk, especially on a cooler day. From there you return to the seaside district along the edge of Park Zdrojowy.
