About the route
In the 19th century Świnoujście was a Prussian fortress, and its forts still stand today. This walk takes in two of them on the left bank of the Świna: the round Fort Anioła at the edge of Park Zdrojowy and the West Fort at the river mouth. The route ends on the breakwater by Stawa Młyny.
What you will see along the way
- Fort Anioła with its exhibitions, café and roof terrace with a rose garden.
- The West Fort with underground passages and bunkers.
- The entrance to the port and Stawa Młyny at the end of the breakwater.
Where to eat along the way
Between Fort Anioła and the West Fort, on ul. Jachtowa, is the Prochownia restaurant in the fortress’s former gunpowder store. Regional cooking in a historic interior rounds off the fort walk nicely.
The third and best preserved fort, Fort Gerharda, stands on the other side of the Świna in Warszów. You can add it the next day, together with the lighthouse.
