About the route

The most interesting walk in Świnoujście combines three things: a ferry ride across the Świna, history (the lighthouse and the fort) and a wild beach without the crowds. You walk through the centre to the Bielik ferry landing, cross to Warszów and from there follow the district’s streets to Fort Gerharda and the lighthouse. Finally you head down to Warszów beach.

What you will see along the way

  • The port and the mouth of the Świna from the ferry deck: the crossing is free on foot.
  • Fort Gerharda with the Coastal Defence Museum.
  • The lighthouse, well worth its 308 steps.
  • A wild beach with dunes, quieter than the beach by the promenade.

Practical tips

  • On the Warszów side, part of the route follows the district’s streets rather than forest paths.
  • The ferries run all year round, day and night, but their frequency depends on the season and time of day, and from autumn to spring some crossings are replaced by the P1 bus. Check the timetable so you do not have to wait on the way back.
  • If you want to climb the lighthouse and visit the fort, allow half a day in total.
