About the route
The cycle path from Świnoujście to Ahlbeck is the most used cycling section in the whole West Pomeranian region, and no wonder. You ride along the sea, almost entirely on the flat, across the border and through three German resorts with historic piers: Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin.
Anyone can manage it, including children on their own bikes, as there are no climbs and no car traffic. Pedestrians are the main obstacle in high season, so it is best to set off in the morning.
What you will see along the way
- The national border sign on the promenade.
- Ahlbeck Pier from 1898, the oldest in Germany.
- Heringsdorf Pier, the longest in Germany (508 m).
- Bansin Pier and dozens of white spa villas.
Practical tips
- The surface is mostly paving and asphalt, with a short gravel section near Ahlbeck.
- In Ahlbeck you may not ride on the pedestrian promenade. Cyclists have a separate path running parallel to it.
- In the German resorts you pay in euros.
- You can come back the same way or take the UBB train to Świnoujście Centrum station. Check the rules for taking bikes with the operator before you set off.
