Why go

Ahlbeck is the first of the three so-called imperial spas (Kaiserbäder) on the German part of Usedom. All you have to do is walk across the border along the promenade to find yourself in a completely different world: white villas with balconies, beach chairs and a slower pace than in Świnoujście.

What to see

  • The pier, the oldest in Germany, in use since 1898, with its distinctive pavilion.
  • The promenade with villas in the spa architecture style.
  • The beach with its beach chairs, typical of German Baltic resorts.

How to get there

  • On foot along the promenade, about 6 km from the central part of the Świnoujście promenade.
  • By bike on the path alongside the promenade (cycling on the promenade itself is not allowed in Ahlbeck).
  • By UBB train from Świnoujście Centrum station.

In Germany you pay in euros. The resorts charge a spa tax (Kurtaxe); check the rules for day visitors on the resort’s website.
