Where the colour comes from
Until the mid-20th century there was a chalk mine here, supplying the cement works in nearby Lubin. After the war the pit began to fill with water, and mining finally ended in 1954. The chalk on the bottom gives the water its distinctive turquoise shade.
The lake covers just under 7 hectares and is over 21 metres deep. It lies within Wolin National Park.
Viewpoint
The best view of the lake is from Sand Hill on its southern shore. A blue-marked trail about 1.5 km long each way leads there. The walk is not demanding and children can manage it too.
The lake is in a national park: stay on the marked trails and follow the rules on the boards at the entrance.
What to combine it with
About 1.5 km from the lake, in Lubin, is the Lubin hillfort viewpoint with a panorama of the Szczecin Lagoon and the Świna delta. You can see both in one afternoon.
