Walkers and cyclists on the promenade in Świnoujście

The longest walk on the Baltic

The Świnoujście promenade runs along the beach through the whole seaside district and, at the border, without any barrier, turns into the promenade of German Ahlbeck. It continues through Heringsdorf all the way to Bansin. The whole stretch is about 12 kilometres long and one of the longest seaside promenades in Europe. The cross-border link was built in 2010-2011.

At the border there is a small sign with the flags of both countries. Many visitors take a photo here with one foot in Poland and the other in Germany.

What you pass along the way

  • Graduation towers at the western end of the promenade, free and open from spring to autumn.
  • Beach entrances every few hundred metres, with sunbed hire and food stands next to them.
  • Restaurants and cafés with sea views, with outdoor seating in season.
  • Hotels and old spa villas that show how the seaside district has changed.
  • Ahlbeck Pier on the German side, about 6 kilometres on foot from the central part of the promenade.

Practical tips

The promenade is flat and paved, so it works well with a pushchair, on a scooter and for older people. A cycle path runs alongside it. Remember that cycling is banned on the promenade itself in Ahlbeck: cyclists have a separate, signposted path there.

In the morning the promenade belongs to joggers and dog walkers, at midday it gets crowded, and in the evening, at sunset, it is at its most beautiful. If you walk to Germany, come back along the water’s edge: the same route, but completely different views.
