About the route
A walk along the promenade across the border is one of those things you do in Świnoujście at least once. You walk along the sea the whole time, on a flat, paved surface. At some point you pass a small sign with the Polish and German flags, and you are already in Ahlbeck, without any checks.
The German side looks quite different from the Polish one: white villas in the spa architecture style, beach chairs and the historic pier from 1898, the oldest in Germany.
What you will see along the way
- The graduation towers at the western end of the Świnoujście promenade.
- The national border sign on the promenade, a popular photo spot.
- Ahlbeck Pier with its distinctive pavilion.
Practical tips
- In Ahlbeck you pay in euros. Most places take cards, but it is worth having some cash with you.
- Cycling is banned on the promenade in Ahlbeck, so if you are on a bike, use the signposted path.
- Ahlbeck Pier is about 6 km away. There and back makes a solid 12 km, so if you are walking with children, consider taking the UBB train back.
